Ex-industry mover and collector Nick Sands tells us how he first got into blues, R&B and soul on Keith Rylatt's blog. The picture shows Nick with Laura Lee, who he met on a visit to the late producer Willie Mitchell in Memphis.
FALCONS Oh Baby (Atlantic)
This is the second Falcons (Fabulous Playboys) featuring the incredible vocals of Carlis Sonny Munroe – to be honest, I could have made a top 5 of just The Falcons!
OHIO UNTOUCHABLES Love Is Amazing (Lupine)
Featuring Robert Ward on vocals and wizard guitar sounds via a Magnatone amp.
BOBBY SMITH & THE DREAM GIRLS Walk On In To My Heart (American Arts)
Although the label stems from Pitttsburg the song was recorded in Detroit and of all her great songs this one wins due to the aching vocals and haunting melody.
NOLAN STRONG If I Oh I (Fortune)
I had to have a nod towards Fortune records and my choice could have been by the score, but I went for this due to the lovely melody and quirky start.
TY HUNTER Memories (Checkmate)
It was hard sticking to 5 titles, but I knew Ty had to be in the chart with his lovely lilting voice... 'Lonely Baby' was another hot contender.
